My first pick of the week is issue five of Grass Kings. This is a really gorgeous looking book with a unique take on storytelling that is recommended to anyone who is looking for something a bit different with their comic books. Artist Tyler Jenkins artwork is simply stunning to behold as he beautifully sets the tone with his bold watercolours for the various emotions and themes at work here.
GENERATION X #4
My second pick of the week is issue four of Generation X. This series has been great so far with a nice balance of action and character development and this issue continues the streak. Writer Christina Strain is doing a fine job writing these classic beloved x men and introducing us in a heartfelt and thoughtful way to some new ones.
JEAN GREY #4
Jean Grey continues her quest for knowledge on how to prevent her predetermined demise to the phoenix force. This issue sees her teaming up with Odinson who trains her how to become a warrior! Writer Dennis Hopeless is doing a great job writing some humorous dialogue combined with the slow burning character development of the endearing Jean Grey that will have readers coming back for more each month.
WEAPON X #5
Leave your brain at the door and this is big dumb fun. Issue five is part three in the Weapons of Mutant Destruction crossover story arc with the Totally Awesome Hulk which he been pretty cool so far. Artist Marc Borstelmann pleased me here with some good old fashioned mutant action and has a good grasp on depicting these characters to their true classic likeness.
