Absolutely epic documentary on the rise and eventual legacy of rap superstar Dr Dre and, business partner for Beats, Jimmy Lovine. You may think you know Dre but perhaps what was most intriguing about this show was the other half of it involving Lovine, a very interesting character of the music industry and this was brilliantly intertwined within the story of Dre, all leading to the quite unfathomable business deal Beats eventually signed with Apple. The depth and detail were fantastic but it really was cleverly presented too which will inspire and inform on these two giants of the music world.
The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir - 7 out of 10 (NETFLIX)
Another great music themed documentary, this time following Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, often overshadowed by Jerry Garcia in the mainstream, this documentary follows the history of the man who more than deserves his story to be told as well. It shows Bob as the incredible guitarist and writer he is and obviously for a hall of fame rock band, there are many stories too of that glorious time rock stars existed. For fans of rock or music in general this is a great watch.
James Acaster: Reportoire - 9 out of 10 (NETFLIX)
Stand up comedy does not get more clever or hilarious than this. This is not your average man telling shit jokes, the sheer intellect this funny is served up by should be commended. Long running jokes through 4 brilliant hour long features make this a must watch for any fans of comedy. The delivery is exceptional, timing impeccable, a bit of stop watch humour with a man on his knees really does set the tone early, he even manages to get a superb laugh from Chilean miners. You will know him as a regular panelist on shows such as 'Would I lie to You?' and '8 out of 10 cats', but this is him in his undeniable full glory. Make sure to watch all 4 from the beginning or you will be missing gags in the later 3!
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee - 9 out of 10 Returning Series (NETFLIX)
One of my absolute favourite shows returned with all episodes available to stream. For any fans of comedy who don't know this show already. It is truly as basic as it could possibly be. Stand up legend Jerry Seinfeld, gets a car (often a rather beautiful old classic) and teams it up with another comedian, some old, some new. He does this to create a beautiful drive along to a coffee shop, where they sit and basically talk funny. Simple, and it doesnt need to be anything else, two funny people, making us laugh. This series look out for Dana Carvey, Dave Chappelle, Kate McKinnon, Brian Regan, Alec Baldwin, Ellen Degeneres and Zack Galifianakis to name a few!
