Why Does The Internet Love Absolute Batman?

Absolute Batman looking intimidating

By Jay Burdett

October 31st, 2025
He’s big, he’s badass and he’s the internet’s favourite Batman at the moment. It’s hard to look anywhere on the nerdy side of the internet without seeing the brute of a Bruce that is Absolute Batman. Whether he is being cosplayed at your local comic con or being used to depict political feelings about the use of ICE in America, Absolute Batman has been trending since before his first issue was even released.

But why is the big bat popping up in reels and on your feed so much? And where is the rest of the Absolute Crew? After all there’s an Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman? Where are they? Why do we love Absolute Batman?

He's Batman

Michael Keaton as Batman
I will be the first to say that the reason you don’t hear about the other 2 as much is simply because they’re not Batman. Let’s be clear, Batman is probably one of, if not most popular, superhero of all time due to his prominence in popular mainstream culture. Hell, he’s even referenced in the MCU when the Eternal, Kingo, introduces his human valet, Karun, to his fellow heroes, Gilgamesh jokes that Karun is "the Alfred to your Batman". Whilst Superman and Wonder Woman should share the limelight equally with the Dark Knight like the Trinity they are meant to be, I personally don’t know anyone who celebrates SUPERMAN DAY (established BEFORE Batman day) and Wonder Woman hasn’t even had a video game released. Let’s face it, everyone wants to be Batman.

Previously Polarising Main Runs Make Absolute Batman Even Better By Comparison

Regardless of what I have just said, one area where Batman has been limping along is in the medium he originally appeared in back in 1939. For the past few years DC has struggled to find comic book writers that connect with the bat and his audience. And they’ve had some big names working on him as well. Tom King took the reins after an impressive and highly approved run by Scott Snyder, back in 2016. He lasted until 2019 and didn’t even get 100 issues out the gate before the backlash and low sales pressured DC to look for someone else.

The mantle then fell to James Tynion IV who was more productive introducing some new characters and ideas rather than just killing Alfred (thanks Tom…I know you say DC told you to do it, but you still did it). Unfortunately, the curse continued as James was also booted off after 85 issues.

In 2023 a favourite of mine, Chip Zdarsky, was brought in off the back of his many successful original comics and his award winning Daredevil run (I mean…it worked when they did it with Frank Miller), however his Batman run was divisive and criticised for making changes to the canon and AGAIN we saw him leave just 22 issues later.

You can see Batman comic fans have been chomping at the bit for a Batman comic, that meets their rightfully high standard, for quite some time. So, it makes sense that when a decent Batman comic comes out, comic fans will have gravitated to it like piranhas to blood in the water, not having felt satisfied since Scott Snyder’s Batman run. And that brings me to my next point…

Scott Snyder Is Writing It

Scott Snyder in front of Batman
Scott’s work on Batman cannot be understated. Every time he pens what the caped crusader does, gold comes out of his pen. His NEW 52 run was one of those rare runs where a new rogue was added to Batman’s gallery, the Court of Owls, and they were so well received that they even ended up in a video game. Then his Elseworld’s story, LAST KNIGHT ON EARTH, was just a heap of fun that, again, was praised highly by comic book fans. Not forgetting BLACK MIRROR and ALL-STAR BATMAN.

Scott seems to understand how to write Batman with both grit and wit. The concept of Absolute Batman was the best move DC could have made. They were literally tearing down everything we know about Bruce and rewriting it all, so it still made sense. I won’t ruin the story for anyone who has yet to read it but this Bruce has had a completely different life from his mainstream counterpart in nearly every conceivable way. If you’re going to rip a character apart and rebuild him, getting the guy who understands him the most to rewrite him is a total no brainer. But as we all know, a book that isn’t released yet can only be judged by its cover, and that’s exactly what we all did.

This Batman Is CHONKY

Yes this BATMAN is built like a brickhouse and it caused quite a stir online. People complained that we, as a society, had gone too far now. We should have stopped asking if we could and started asking if we should. Initial thoughts were mostly negative. I read a lot of people teasing and making fun of this look saying that even his logo looked roided out and was illegible.

However, once the book was released and you could read WHY he and his logo look like that, all was forgiven and forgotten. But I still think it was clever to get the buzz happening around the nerdy watercoolers with this cover. It was obviously going to draw attention and there is no such thing as bad publicity. Going straight in at the deep end with the full reveal of this Batman as the cover art was a stroke of genius and definitely helped get the name Absolute Batman out there. None of the other trinity have come close to that much attention in their Absolute runs. But this BATMAN isn’t all style and no substance…

Absolute Batman's Story Is Incredible

Oh my Stan Lee this book is amazing. The ideas are not only fresh and breathe new life into a comic book character close to 100 years old but they are written and drawn so perfectly that you feel like you’re reading cinema. It’s always amazing to me how DC didn’t seem to know what to do with The Batman cinematically after Nolan’s trilogy, whilst the age of comic book movies was at its peak too, and they didn’t know what to do with their biggest and most popular asset. Yet here we have a writer that each time he is asked to return to writing the Batman, no matter how many years has passed, he completely knocks it out of the park.

I do not want to ruin the story at all for you but if you are curious, I did do a TIKTOK about how much I love this book: www.tiktok.com/@talknerdyuk
This comic’s first issue went on to do eight printings. EIGHT! We, as a society, clearly can’t get enough of it.

Regardless of whether you love Absolute Batman or hate his design and concept, he, as a character, has lit the nerdy internet on fire for over a year now, burning brighter every month (at the time of writing this, the Absolute Batman Annual has just come out this week and the internet is loving it for its nods to wrestling and political statements but also also hating it for its nods to wrestling and political statements), and I don't think he's going to stop appearing on your feed any time soon.
