Hopefully you have been reading my recommendations for the past 30 days leading up to Halloween, now we have hit the big day; Halloween! So I have saved my very favourite for the big day, an easy pick for me, it's 1987's 'Evil Dead 2'!
Sam Raimi’s sequel to 'Evil Dead' is, in my opinion, much, MUCH better than the first, and that is saying something. It is funnier, scarier and just packs more of a punch. The film takes our bunch of victims, including the amazing Ash, to a cabin in the woods. They find the Necronomicon and of course 'Evil' gate-crashes the party. Storywise I would say this isn’t really a sequel it’s more like a remake of Evil Dead but much better effects, much funnier script and Bruce Campbell just steals the show...GROOVY.
To pick my favourite bit from this movie is impossible because there are so many good bits. We have Ash's possessed demon hand! The infamous chainsaw arm...oh, the Deer how could I forget him. But let's not stop there. There are also tonnes of other great movies in the 'Evil Dead' franchise and I hope they keep giving us more. In 1992 we got more of what we wanted with another instalment of Ash in 'Army of Darkness' I can’t even begin to describe this movie...it’s mental in a great way. Get that watched too!
Cut to 2013 and the franchise was brought back with a new take on the film in a genuinely scary and brilliant 'Evil Dead' remake. I loved it! It stayed very faithful to the franchise with some proper gory and cool as fuck kills.
And last but not least we got even more 'Evil Dead' goodness in Halloween 2015. We got treated to Sam and Bruce Campbell getting back together for the fantastic TV debut of 'Ash Vs Evil Dead'. What a show! I love it so much. Once you have watched Evil Dead 2 pick up this and give it a watch. We have two seasons as it stands with a 3rd due very soon
