@that_cardboard_guy is our Cosplay of the Week Winner. Here's an interview with Hellboy himself:
What was your first cosplay?
It was a battle damaged terminator.
How long have you been cosplaying?
I've been cosplaying at comic-cons for five years.
What's your biggest motivation?
I love to create. I love pushing the envelope. The Hellboy costume was ambitious because I only gave myself two weeks to make it happen, basically right before comic-con, which really tested my skills. The other motivation was that this costume was my first specific character costume. Up until this point I had only done generic costumes (knights, terminators, and Jedi).
What is the best and worst part of the costume?
The best thing about the Hellboy costume was that everything fit and worked perfectly the first time I wore it at Emerald City Comic Con, nothing broke or fell off. All the straps for the chest rig held and fitted well, I was really surprised.
The worst part of the costume is that the mask doesn't ventilate very well so the lenses fog up and I can't see. Another drawback is that I can't wear the suit on really hot days since the foam keeps all the heat and sweat in, I have to clean it every time I wear it.
What is your dream cosplay?
I would love to dress up as one of the goblin riders from the movie Labyrinth, either number 4 or number 5.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
I am constantly inspired by Nycci (@nyckyexox on instagram), she is my partner in crime. Without her support I don't think I would have pushed myself as hard as I did to get Hellboy done in the time it took.
Adam Savage's one day builds, because I love watching the creative process behind his projects and the way he geeks out.
Evil Ted is another major inspiration, he makes everything he works on look so easy its hard not to take on complicated projects.
