TALK NERDY TV - 21.3.18

Shows we have been watching this month!

PICK OF THE WEEK

Wild Wild Country - 8 out of 10

Fantastic doc  takes you on a very informative look at a true story which hit the headlines in the mid 80's in Oregon. A movement started in the 60's, by a man named Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, who preached controversially on his views of how to live life and be happy. Becoming known as the sex guru, ushering new ways to treat a fellow man and to create through love, peace and togetherness, this all appeared to take over a small town and set up a city of followers called Sannyasins right next door. Throughout some of this documentary I question whether what this "cult" was doing wasn't something great and perhaps that is my inner hippy going for a ride. But I believe it certainly started with good intentions, unfortunately toward the end more sinister twists occur, more than putting me off the teachings of Bhagwan, now known as Osho, it actually has intrigued me more, I might need to go on a maroon outfit shopping spree!

Take Your Pills - 7 out of 10

A great documentary focusing on America's trend to medicate kids from an early age, the problem with the over prescribing of Adderall and Ritalin when treating signs of ADD (attention deficit disorder) and the almost wide acceptance from parents that this is the only way to help. It also shows how this has gone onto the adult world and in certain industries almost become a necessity to perform at work.

Last Chance U - 7 out of 10

Caught up on this great little show I found on Netflix. Following the life of a junior college football team, this follows the plight of the East Mississippi Lions, a collection of players who are very talented but haven't got the grades or have off field problems which have prevented their access to division 1 college football teams! It's a great fly on the wall, showing how hard real life can be and perhaps the best thing is the inspirations along the way, particularly Miss Wagnor and the coaches of the team, who try to steer and guide these young men in the right direction to fulfill their dreams, or at the very least graduate! If you too are a sucker for real life story sport drama, this one very much is for you!

The Keepers - 7 out of 10

Definitely for the crime conspiracy fans out there, this follows the true events of a murder which has remained unsolved for five decades, of a nun and another young girl in Baltimore. It focuses heavily on a catholic church and an all girls catholic school, which is heavily embroiled in the saga amid accusations of child molestation by the priests! This one has a fair few moments similar to making a murderer which you just won't believe someone hasn't been found out or held accountable yet, it beggars belief that someone has got away with everything that appears to have gone on. A watch which will intrigue and disturb!
