Talk Nerdy TV 31/5/18

Picture
Welcome to Leith - 6 out of 10

"When a noted white supremacist moves into their town, the residents of Leith, North Dakota do what they can to prevent him from taking control of the municipality."

Good solid documentary on a difficult subject, worth a once over if only to be baffled by genuine racists and their views and actions.

Picture
Gascoigne - 7 out of 10

"A feature length, theatrical documentary on the life of Paul Gascoigne, one of the greatest English footballers that ever lived: delving deep into his psyche, vulnerabilities, fears and triumphs."

Told by the man himself this is a must watch for any football fan (soccer for American readers) at times Gazza would have you laughing aloud but also you can see the utter sorrow in the mans eyes in times of hardship. Emotional but thats why its hard not to route for him. Some fantastic stories told here.

The Alienist - 8 out of 10

"Newspaper illustrator John Moore meets with criminal psychologist (alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler to investigate a serial killer in New York during the late 19th century."

This was gripping. Fantastic acting from the three leads and genuine suspense and mystery drove you to keep playing the next episode. You could easily lose a couple of nights scoffing episode after episode here and I have to also note the frankly absurd and brilliant backdrop of the era, stunning!

Safe - 7 out of 10

"After his daughter goes missing, a widower begins uncovering the dark secrets of the people closest to him."

Now I praised the acting of the last one, but this one was shot like a Hollyoaks episode (again for our American readers, Hollyoaks is shit acting basically) but just like Hollyoaks for some reason, I couldn't stop watching it. It was like crack to me, and that can only be the strength of the script and story. Which like the aforementioned Alienist, kept you guessing and kept you coming back for more and more.

RETURNING SERIES:

Westworld - Season 2

Its back and just as baffling, strange and head bemusing as ever, maybe even more so and that's why we love it. Take your mind for a walk again and enjoy because season 2 is looking just as good.

Expanding the park and developing new characters seamlessly, if anyone has watched the original film, they may have expected these revelations (PS. go watch the film because its great) but whether its new to you and that's exciting or whether its just boss to see how they are developing it like myself, you will be counting the minutes to each next episode i'm sure.

13 Reasons Why - Season 2

You had to wonder how they would get away with a second season here and they did it with clever use of an ongoing court case which allowed again each episode to tell the tale of one of the characters in the same format the tapes did in Season 1. I have to say though I very nearly didn't make it past episode 1.

I really was unsure at the use of Hannah's character again and I also felt it lacked a little of the charm of the first season, I did however push through and it got better as the season went on leading to a climax in the last episode, which although I can see why people are suggesting its shocking, purely down to subject matter but lets face it overall, we all saw it coming and it hardly delivered much other than a lead up to a third season. Overall I think the second season was weaker than the first, though still watchable for fans of the show. But this idea could get tedious and fast so please tell me a third season is a last season!
